FOR WOMEN
Mark your calendars! The next meeting of the Carson chapter of NNWLA will be Thursday, July 26 at noon at Station Grill & Rotisserie at 1105 So. Carson St. Our feature speaker will be Dr. Stephanie Dillon, Ph.D. who spoke at our Reno luncheon in June 2001.

She will also provide excellent tools and ideas for removing stress, managing our work and family lives and alleviating the guilt associated with doing things for ourselves.
Dr. Dillon appears frequently in the television, radio and print media. She has produced self esteem workshops for federal, state and local governments and for corporations, school districts, colleges, and universities. She also does corporate and educational consulting. Dr. Dillon has also written a book entitled "The Woman’s Guide to Total Self-Esteem - The Eight Secrets You Need to Know" which will be available for purchase at the luncheon.
Lunch choices are: Grill Pasta (Vegetarian)
Chicken Caesar Salad
Tuna Filet Burger
The cost is $13.00, which includes dessert and beverage. Call Ronda Moore at 684-1228 with your choice by Tuesday, July 24.
SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS
ARE STILL TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
You can make your tax-deductible contributions to assist a female law student with her law school expenses. Our goal is to exceed the $1,000 scholarship award amounts that we have provided to women students for the past two years. The donation is supportive of women in our profession and truly appreciated. Please help support a future colleague. Contact Jill Greiner for more information at 322-8443.
JURIES SURVEYED SHOW LOSING TRUST IN AUTHORITY FIGURES
Survey shows . . . Jurors are losing their trust in authority figures, according to a recent survey done by DecisionQuest, a trial consulting company. Jurors surveyed find it difficult to be impartial in certain types of cases, including those involving tobacco companies, HMOs and manufacturers of such items as breast implants, guns, and tires. Moreover, it seems that using top executives of these defendants as witnesses will likely backfire, since the jurors indicated a belief that such witnesses would often try to cover up the harm their companies do. The survey also considered what demeanor and presentation style jurors expected and appreciated from the attorneys. Results show that 29% surveyed do not like computer-aided simulations and more than 75% do not like lawyers that shout at witnesses. Finally jurors seemed to favor lawyers in conservative "off-the-rack" suits with little or no jewelry.
(An article detailing the survey further appears in the Litigation News, Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, May 2001.)
