MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It has been a great pleasure for me to serve on this board for the last four years and serve each of you. It has provided me an incredible opportunity to grow and learn from the experience and develop wonderful friendships with my colleagues. For that I am truly grateful.

We have had some great speakers and the Outstanding Women Lawyer dinner was successful with incredible people giving to the event, especially the dinner committee.

As we honored Valerie P. Cooke, I am also appreciative of her insight and giving nature as well as that of Cissy Rosenauer for bringing the Partners in Education Program ideas to us and facilitating the relationship with Traner Middle School so that we continue to give to the girls that our future.

We were also able this year to donate to the Labyrinth garden at Rancho San Rafael park in honor of victims of crime which are generally comprised of women and children.

I am also proud to say that we honored two individuals with scholarship awards in the amount of $750.00 each. This is the first year we have been able to award two scholarships and believe that with the continued dedication we can continue to increase the awards.

It would be my honor to be able to turn control over to Amy Tirre, President-Elect for 2002. Amy has shown inspiring dedication, strong leadership abilities and a wonderful attitude.

Thank you, each of you, for your support, generosity and dedication to our organization. I hope your holidays are wonderful, and your life full of health, happiness and love.

Yours Truly,

Gabrielle J. Carr

Moms and Daughters Clothes Closet

December 1, 2001

Weren’t you planning to clean out your closets to make room for winter clothes anyway? Now, you can make the chore more rewarding by donating your used, but perfectly serviceable clothing, shoes, purses, and accessories to the NNWLA First Annual Moms and Daughters Clothes Closet! Co-chairs are Janet Chubb (786-5000/ jlc@jonesvargas.com ) and Judge Barbara Finley at 325-6505 or email at her address bfinley@mail.co.washoe.nv.us .

NNWLA is sponsoring at Moms and Daughters Clothes Closet on December 1st for the moms and daughters at Traner Middle School. (Clothing for boys is welcome, also.) The girls need everything from good shoes, jeans, and sweatshirts to skirts, dresses, coats, mittens, and hats. Moms need work clothes, suits, shoes, pants, purses, jackets, coats, and even accessories. If you have clothing for younger children, that will also be greatly appreciated. Also, you can help by purchasing underwear and socks. These are items that people need, but may not be able to afford

  1. Please put clothing on hangers, if possible. If not, neatly fold in bags.
  2. Label clothing according to size. For example, label "womens - size ten," girls- size 12," etc. Labeling will help us to sort clothing.
  3. If you are bringing shoes, please spiff them up by polishing or cleaning them if necessary. Indicate shoe size by taping it on the inside of the shoes.
  4. Clothing Drop off: You can bring your clothing to the November NNWLA luncheon, to Valerie Cooke’s house at 2000 Solari Drive (827-4008), or you can drop off at the Traner Middle School cafeteria on Friday, November 30th from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.
  5. Directions to Traner Middle School: Take Wells Avenue north toward the Washoe County Fairgrounds and follow Wells Ave. all the way around the fairgrounds until it turn into Oddie Blvd. Turn right on Montello and follow Montello until you reach Carville. Turn left. Traner is at 1700 Carville. Phone is 333-5130.
  6. Volunteers Needed! Please volunteer to help sort clothing on Friday evening, November 30th, or help at the Clothes Closet from 8:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st. Call or email Jann and/or Barbara NOW to sign up.

We know you are busy people, but taking time to help others by donating clothing and volunteering an evening or morning brings great rewards.

WE ENJOY SO MUCH ABUNDANCE IN OUR LIVES. PLEASE SHARE YOUR TIME AND YOUR CLOTHING WITH PEOPLE WHO WILL TRULY APPRECIATE IT
